A lightweight look for springs

Rheinmetall has received an order for its new patented, glass-fiber-reinforced plastic suspension springs from an unidentified premium automaker.
The German supplier has been developing the lightweight concept in secrecy until now. Rheinmetall calculates that the springs deliver a weight advantage in unsprung mass of up to 75 percent over conventional steel coil springs, making the concept of particular interest for weight-sensitive electric vehicles.
