European 2024 Audi Q4 E-Tron Debuts Piquing Interest for Updated U.S. Version

Audi is set to make waves in the electric vehicle market with the debut of its 2024 Q4 e-tron family of electric SUVs. This update promises a host of improvements across various aspects of the vehicle, aiming to enhance efficiency, range, charging capabilities, and overall driving experience.

One of the standout features of the 2024 Q4 e-tron is its improved DC fast charging capability. While the battery’s net energy capacity remains at 77 kilowatt-hours (82 kWh gross), optimized cell chemistry now allows for faster charging. Drivers can expect an impressive 10-80% charge in just approximately 28 minutes, a significant improvement over previous models. The quattro dual-motor variants boast a maximum DC charging power of 175 kW, while rear-wheel-drive models offer a still commendable 135 kW. Moreover, a new battery protection function has been introduced, which limits the charge level to 80% to extend the battery’s lifespan. Additionally, the inclusion of battery post-conditioning is a first for the Q4 e-tron, ensuring the battery remains within a fixed temperature threshold after driving or charging.

To further enhance the Q4 e-tron’s performance, Audi has introduced a new rear electric motor. This motor, a permanently excited synchronous machine (PSM), delivers a robust 282 horsepower (210 kW). This addition not only boosts efficiency but also extends the vehicle’s range. For instance, the Audi Q4 Sportback 45 e-tron now offers up to 349 miles of range in the WLTP cycle, an improvement over its previous range of 332 miles. The enhanced thermal management of the new motor contributes to this increase in efficiency. Acceleration has also seen improvements, with the entry-level models achieving a 0-62 mph time of 6.7 seconds, and the quattro variants achieving it in just 6.6 seconds. The top-performing models, the Q4 55 e-tron quattro and Q4 Sportback 55 e-tron quattro, can sprint from 0-62 mph in a swift 5.4 seconds, thanks to their more powerful dual-motor setup generating 250 kW (335 hp).

In terms of suspension and handling, Audi has fine-tuned the Q4 e-tron’s setup to provide a more balanced and comfortable ride. This adjustment aims to improve driving enjoyment, stability, steering response, and load control, benefiting all variants, whether equipped with standard, sport, or damper control suspension.

In the realm of technology and features, Audi has made several additions and enhancements. The 2024 Q4 e-tron now comes standard with the Audi MMI navigation plus, Audi connect Navigation & Infotainment, and a fully digital 10.25-inch Audi virtual cockpit. Additionally, new standard features include a powered tailgate and heated front seats.

For those looking to customize their Q4 e-tron, Audi offers an optional Edition S line. This package includes unique body colors, contrasting wheel arch trims, 21-inch wheels, Matrix LED headlights, darkened LED taillights, and Audi rings with a bronze finish, providing a distinctive appearance.

One intriguing addition is the “character sound” feature, which sets the Q4 e-tron apart from other EVs and Audis. This sound varies based on factors like speed and load, creating a unique auditory experience for drivers and pedestrians alike. The mandatory Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System operates at speeds up to 15.5 mph, ensuring safety while maintaining the vehicle’s distinct “character sound.”

The updated 2024 Audi Q4 e-tron family will be available for order in Europe starting from September 26, with prices beginning at 52,950 euros ($56,400) in Germany. Unfortunately, Audi has not yet disclosed when the U.S. market will receive these updated Q4 e-tron SUVs, but this release marks another significant step forward in the world of electric mobility.
